
Designed to teach students to communicate with Deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL) on a range of themes that involve simple, everyday language use, gaining basic skills and confidence in production and reception of BSL. It is important students have sufficient sight, manual dexterity, facial and body movements to product and receive BSL.
Divided into three units, each of which can be achieved separately. Students who are new to BSL should cover BSL101 first, as units BSL102 and BSL103 build on this knowledge. Units 102 and 103 can be taken in any order. To achieve the full Level 1 Award in British Sign Language, candidates must pass all units. Accredited Qualification with Credit Value at Level 1 being 9.
Tuition is over 25 weeks (online) split into 2 hour sessions, in addition to this students are required to carry out 26 hours extra studies (watching You Tube clips, basic TV Signed programs, or volunteer at Deaf centres). Record sheets are provided so these hours can be logged, monitoring of progress will be expected.
